About Power Plant Maps Health & Safety Data

PowerPlantMaps.com was inspired after listening to multiple groups of parents tell stories about sick kids living in close proximity to coal, gas and nuclear power plants and electrical substations. The map aims to document health and safety concerns by people all over the World in an effort to provide more transparency about the risks of living, working and going to school near a power plant. This map is to serve as a open collaboration platform for people to express their safety concerns about oil operations that may be jeopardizing their health and safety. The map is also a search engine for public safety issues. The map also can be used to find other local communities that are coming together to fight power plant expansions. For example, do a search on our map for "Facebook" or "Residents" and you will find opposition groups organizing in your area.

Purpose of the Map

It has been well documented that there are many safety implications of living near electrical substations and power plants that pollute our air. However, energy companies still claim that these areas are safe and are not the cause of health related concerns many residents living near these sites are experiencing. Our map raises the awareness of various illnesses potentially caused by living in close proximity to energy operations.

More Transparent Sharing of Medical & Gov't Information Is Needed

Energy is consumption is critical to our well being and life. However, the risks are still unknown about living near power plant locations and the safety implications they impose. Doctors frequently see health issue patterns in communities but are restricted from sharing information due to privacy laws. It is our objective to document health concerns on a map and leave it up to the scientists and readers to make their own conclusions.
